Green Lantern #20 marks the end of a near 10 year run by legendary writer Geoff Johns. Geoff Johns saved the franchise, re-modelling it and expanding beyond the wildest imaginations of any of the previous writers. Now DC have screwed over Green Lantern fans this year...the Rise of the Third Army and the Wrath of the First Lantern sagas have near forced fans to purchase all four Green Lantern titles for about 8-9 months...a significant rise in the monthly comic book budget! So...was it worth it?

In short YES. But it took a while to get there and it wasn't perfect. I'm biased...Green Lantern is my favourite comic. I've actually quite enjoyed the cross-overs too. I would never have bought Red Lanterns otherwise, a series that I now love.
You may wonder, "If he Loves Green Lantern so much, why has he got any problem with this story arch?" Well, if you love Green Lantern, you probably already know...***WARNING SPOILERS COMING!***
Now, it was obvious from August 2012 that Hal Jordan was going to become a Black Lantern...why has it taken nearly a whole year for this to unfold on to our pages?!? AND, why did it last but a few screens. It was all build and then it just fizzled out, much like the Third Army did. They built that up and then the Volthoom, the First Lantern, just unimagined them from existence...pretty cool, but a massive anti-climax.
Now Nekron was cool. He was very cool...but Hal didn't seem to be in charge of him at first, he seemed a little uneasy...yes he was waking Nekron...but Nekron challenges his authority to control him...Hal nervously tells him that he woke him, he's in charge...Nekron puts his tail between his legs, winds his neck in, and does Hal's bidding.
Then...after defeating Volthoom, after it took like a whole arc to achieve in Blackest Night, Nekron gently and peaceably climbs back in his box. The whole Nekron part seemed too short and underwhelming. Other than that, it was outstanding!

really cool things happened!!!

Sinestro is his normal, outstanding, arrogant, brilliant self. He takes Parallax and consumes it, not allowing the parasite to infect him with fear, but actually controlling fear itself and wielding it with ease. This bit gave me chills and made me go, "Oh! Wow!" I loved it...but unfortunately this occurrence only made Hal Jordan's awaking of Nekron seem less brilliant than it would have otherwise felt in the following pages.
The comic as a whole was a fitting end to a mammoth run by legend Geoff Johns. The story is told brilliantly by a mystery man (I'm hoping fans spotted who, if not re-read, look closely, it's beautiful!)
Instead of leaving his Lanterns to it, Johns ties up all the loose ends. It really felt like he knew how he'd have told the story for the rest of the characters lives. He finishes by showing what became of them all, very nicely done, a spell-binding end, but he leaves the 'How they got there' bit to the rest of the DCU to tell as they see fit.

MY VERDICT
RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY ARC - 4/5
WRATH OF THE FIRST LANTERN ARC - 4/5

THE CONCLUDING PART; GREEN LANTERN #20 - 4.5/5

Hope you have found my review helpful, useful, informative, interesting, all of the above...though it was very possibly none of these things...whichever way you swing/swung/sway, let me know what you thought, of what I thought.

Thank you

DAN
